AMSI Summer School Careers Day

Careers Day 2024 – Australian Signals Directorate

ASD’s purpose is to defend Australia from global threats and help advance Australia’s national interests. We do this by mastering technology to inform, protect and disrupt.

  • Informing – by the covert acquisition of foreign information not publicly available (signals intelligence)
  • Protecting – by comprehensively understanding the cyber threat, providing proactive advice and assistance to improve the management of cyber risk by government, business and the community
  • Disrupting – by applying our offensive cyber capabilities offshore, to support military operations, counter-terrorism, counter cyber espionage and serious cyber-enabled crime.

ASD operates in the slim area between the difficult and the impossible. We aren’t looking for one type of person, we’re looking for the right type of person. Those curious and creative minds who will bring new ideas and skills to our organisation. No matter your background, skills and experiences, there is an opportunity available for you at ASD.

As part of your graduate journey, you will experience three four-month rotations that will develop your skills and allow you to explore different areas of interest. You will have a permanent role that is relevant to your degree and interests upon successful completion of the program.

ASD Cadetships

As a cadet, you’ll work on various projects that contribute to Australia’s national security while being supported by ASD mentors and supervisors. You will also undertake specialised training to improve your skills, and get real-world experience that you won’t get at university.

A cadetship is for university students currently studying for an undergraduate or postgraduate degree.

ASD Internship Program

We offer a 3-month internship for tertiary students. The internship is during university summer holidays (November to February). The program is run primarily from Canberra, whith placements in other ASD locations considered. Students are engaged on a non-ongoing short-term contract at an ASD 2-level salary.

We are interested in people who want to further their knowledge and apply their skills in practical roles. Your work will vary, depending on your skills and your team’s function.
